Danielle's Story
meet one of the families now on their own after being at Freedom House.
Make a donation to Hope for Addiction of any amount (up to $400 single or $800 jointly for your Arizona state tax liability). When you file your Arizona taxes, claim a dollar-for-dollar Arizona Charitable Tax Credit that will reduce your tax liability. If you receive a refund, when you make your donation, you will actually receive that amount back when you file. Donations for 2020 tax credit may be made until May 17, 2021 (Deadline has been extended to match the Federal filing date).

THIS CREDIT IS IN ADDITION TO THE SCHOOL AND FOSTER CREDIT, SO YOU CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL THREE!

Simply complete AZ Form 321 and include it when you file your 2020 State Taxes. Hope for Addiction will provide a copy of this form with your year-end giving summary in January.

See what's owed

We all owe, even if we get a refund. This amount is found on line 48 of your state tax form. Most of us pay against this amount each paycheck which gives us a refund at the end. But we still OWE taxes, we just pay them all year long.

If you usually receive a refund, you can actually get your donation BACK. Cool, right?!

Have a say

The state of Arizona allows us to to take this amount (from line 48) and pay it through a donation to a qualified charity (or school or both). If you are getting a refund because you paid via your paycheck, you still owe the state.

So, you can pay that amount to Hope for Addiction (up to $400/ single or $800/ married) and actually INCREASE your refund, which means you get this money BACK!

#highfive for refunds!

Take the credit!

If you use TurboTax or TaxAct, when you get to the question asking if you took advantage of a tax credit to a qualified organization, simply check that box. You will be directed to a window in which to enter “Hope for Addiction” and choose Hope for Addiction from the dropdown. Then enter the amount of your tax credit donation. Your software does the rest!

If you use a tax preparer, simply include the statement that Hope for Addiction sends you with your tax documents and they will do the rest.

How easy is that??!!

You have to pay taxes, why not direct them and change lives?

You can give until April 15, 2021 for 2020 credit.
By redirecting your tax liability to Hope for Addiction you can see what your tax dollars are doing and the ACTUAL people who are benefiting from your tax dollars.

Who wouldn't want to do that!??!

Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS THE ARIZONA CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT?

The amazing state of Arizona recognizes the benefits of charitable organizations that serve the under-privileged. Arizona allows you to take a dollar-for-dollar credit on your state taxes when you donate up to $400 for single, heads of household, and married filing separate filers, or $800 for married couples filing jointly to a qualified organization (previously known as the Working Poor Tax Credit). If you file federal income tax returns, you are also allowed to deduct all your charitable donations to Hope for Addiction (the federal deduction may change, we are waiting for a federal ruling later this year).

WHICH ORGANIZATIONS
CAN I GIVE TO AND GET THE TAX CREDIT?

The State of Arizona has designated Hope for Addiction as a qualified charitable organization. That means when you invest in saving lives, these gifts can be used toward your Arizona tax liability by receiving the tax credit, up to the $400/$800 limit.

WHEN DO I NEED TO MAKE MY GIFT TO QUALIFY FOR THE 2020 TAX YEAR?
You must make your donation on or before April 15, 2021 for your donation to be applied to the 2020 tax year.

I ALWAYS GET A REFUND.
CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

Most people still have a liability to pay. If you receive a refund, you can still participate and you will receive your donation back. For example: You are married and owe $1,000 in Arizona personal income tax. You've had $1,300 withheld for AZ taxes from your paychecks this year.  So your typical refund is $300.  You can make an $800 tax credit donation to Hope for Addiction and claim it as a credit on your AZ tax return.  The state will credit the $800 donation as paid toward your tax liability and refund $1,100 to you ($300 + $800).

DO I HAVE TO MAKE MY DONATION AT ONCE, IN ONE LARGE GIFT?
No, the tax credit is for your total giving, so any Arizona residents can take advantage of the tax credit. If you prefer to give monthly, quarterly or in multiple smaller gifts, all donations count toward the tax credit, up to the allowable credit or your tax liability. A year end statement will give your total giving.

HOW DO I GET THE TAX CREDIT WHEN I FILE MY TAXES?

Its easy! We will send you the necessary form (AZ Form 321) in January as well as your year-end giving statement. For more information about the dollar-for-dollar tax credit, visit the Arizona Department of Revenue website HERE.
WHAT IF I ALREADY USE THE SCHOOL OR FOSTER CARE TAX CREDITS?
This tax credit is allowed IN ADDITION to the Education Credit and the Foster Care Credit, so you don’t have to choose, you can contribute to all three, up to your tax liability. You can share the love!

WHAT WILL MY DONATIONS BE USED FOR?

Your donations support single moms working to rebuild their lives at Freedom House. At-risk families are provided a safe, affordable home and receive services necessary for rebuilding and keeping families together. Services include: mentorship, counseling, career counseling, budgeting, parenting classes/plans, managing a schedule and home, life skills and more. Overcoming addictions and rebuilding the brokenness takes time and on-going support and care.

DO I NEED TO ITEMIZE MY TAXES TO CLAIM THE TAX CREDIT?
No. You can fill out the short form and still claim the credit, including AZ Form 321 when you file.
