Natalie's Story
Biblical counseling is a vital part of Hope for Addiction's program because addressing the root causes of addiction provides a path for real and lasting change. When the outward expression of addiction remains the focus, life struggles will eventually lead back to addiction. Natalie is an example of the transformation that happens when the gospel is applied to real life.
Natalie was part of Hope for Addiction's Recovering Hope group many years ago. She was an active participant with some success but she wasn't ready to fully leave her old life behind. Last December, she reconnected with Liz and expressed her desire to return to the program. Natalie moved into Freedom House and God began His work of change through biblical counseling, church teaching and Christian community. Natalie learned the importance of what Jesus accomplished at the cross – not only for her salvation, but for every day. She is learning to identify her heart issues and to apply gospel truth in practical ways that are helping her to live in freedom.
This video is a snippet of real heart issues that Natalie has identified as a part of her past addiction and how that root issue played out in a recent situation at work. This video shows how biblical counseling leads hurting people to hope and change through an understanding of God’s truth. Biblical counseling does not present secular theories or "christianize" cultural therapies, rather it helps people understand God’s Word in practical ways that changes hearts, thoughts and lives.
