Does the Bible really provide hope and freedom from addiction?
Is the biblical Jesus
a “higher power” or something more?
Are the 12 Steps necessary for sobriety?
Is the problem addiction or
is it sin?
Our heart is to lovingly and humbly share the truth of the gospel so those bound in addiction can know the freedom found in Christ. The purpose of this comparison chart is to clearly explain the difference between a secular understanding of addiction and the truth of the Bible.
If we embrace the worldly view of the problem of addiction, it makes it difficult to bring a biblical solution. Even a Christianized view of a secular solution falls short of bringing the hope of the gospel, the true solution for the struggle and the difference between sobriety and freedom.
Hope for Addiction Recovering Hope meetings introduce a biblical view of addiction and present Jesus Christ as the solution for all sinners, including addicts. Our primary goal is to spread the gospel message of Christ to the hurting and the lost; for sufferers, sinners, and the enslaved. All are welcome, as the message of the cross is for everyone.
Four distinctions of Hope for Addiction compared to other recovery programs:
-
Gospel Transformation not behavior modification
-
Freedom not Sobriety
-
Biblical truth not worldly wisdom
-
Church community not addiction community
